One of the experiments we would do in the freshman biology class I taught was to see what would happen if you took bean seeds and placed them in the center of a medium sized ball of concrete wet concrete which was hard within a day or so. By the end of the week, the concrete was in shambles and the beans were germinating everywhere. Very, very way cool example of turgor pressure in plants and good example of why they can grow in some of the places they do.
